STILLWATER - Oklahoma State got back in the win column with a 5-1 win over Missouri State Tuesday at O'Brate Stadium.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the No. 6 Cowboys as they improved to 7-5; Missouri State dropped to 5-7 with the loss.
OSU starter Dillon Marsh got the win after a strong outing, working four shutout innings and allowing just one hit while striking out seven to move to 1-0.
Garrett Martin and Jake Thompson were bright spots in the OSU lineup. Martin finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and smacked his second home run of the season, while Thompson went 3-for-3 with an RBI and reached base in all four of his plate appearances.
The Cowboys got the scoring started in the third inning. Zach Ehrhard singled with one out to begin the rally, and Roc Riggio followed with a double into the right-center field gap, driving in Ehrhard and giving the freshman his sixth RBI of the season. Thompson would then single to center field, bringing Riggio in and giving OSU a 2-0 lead.
Missouri State got one back in the fifth when Dakota Kotowski sent his seventh home run of the season into the OSU bullpen to lead off the inning and make it a 2-1 ballgame.
The Cowboys answered the solo home run with one of their own when Martin sent a no doubter out to left-center field, extending the lead to 3-1 after six innings.
OSU added an insurance run in the seventh. Ehrhard once again got things started, this time doubling down the third-base line to lead off the inning before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Thompson would be intentionally walked, setting up runners at the corners and two outs for Martin, who singled to center field to drive in his second run of the day.
The final run of the evening came when John Bay, who made his first-career start for the Cowboys, sent a pitch into the seats in left-center field to lead off the eighth. The round tripper was the first of Bay's career and extended the OSU lead to four.
The Cowboys are back in action Thursday when they begin a three-game series against BYU. The series was relocated to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with the Thursday and Friday games set for 6:30 p.m. and Saturday's finale scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
