February 08, 2019 | Cowgirl Tennis
SEATTLE, Wash.- The ninth-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 2 North Carolina in the first round of the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship on Friday, marking the third straight loss for the Cowgirls.
"Today was another great match with one of the best teams in the country," said coach Chris Young. "We are very close in these matches but have to commit to doing the right things in the big moments."
The Tar Heels struck first on Court 2 as No. 15 Sara Daavettila defeated Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, 3-6, 5-7.
On Court 1, No. 22 Katarina Stresnakova took on sixth-ranked Makenna Jones. The first set was close, but Jones took it 7-6 (3). The second set was another close battle, but Jones also came away with the victory, 6-4.
UNC continued to score as No. 7 Alexa Graham defeated the Cowgirls' Lisa Marie Rioux in a hard-fought match that went three sets. Graham took the first set, 6-2, but Rioux evened things up when she won the second, 7-5. However, Graham secured the point with a 6-3 win in the third set.
The decisive match saw Jessie Anney defeat OSU's Tamara Arnold, 6-3, 6-3.
"Credit to UNC for stepping up and executing. We will learn from this and come out stronger tomorrow," Young said.
The Cowgirls will get right back into action Saturday when they take on the loser of UCLA and South Carolina in Seattle.
