Nijkamp, Peyre Advance at Battle in the Bay

STILLWATER – Rose Marie Nijkamp and Lucia Peyre of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team collected wins in the opening round of the Battle in the Bay in San Francisco, California, on Thursday.
The day began with doubles, with one Cowgirl pair advancing. Peyre and Nijkamp defeated USC's Jana Hossam Salah and Imogen Haddad, 8-2.
At the same time on a different court, Gracie Epps and Marcela Lopez came up just short in a match against Lou Baudouin and Irene Riva of Sacramento State.
In singles, Lopez fell to top-seeded Anastasiia Grechkina of Pepperdine, 4-6, 4-6. Epps then came up just short in a match against Eva Alvarez Sande of Washington State, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7.
Nijkamp later picked up a win to open her fall singles action, defeating Kennedy Buntrock of Cal Poly, 6-3, 6-2. Peyre rounded out the day defeating Sacramento State's Riva, 6-2, 7-5.
The Cowgirl duo will be back in action tomorrow for the Quarterfinals in doubles and the Round of 16 in singles.
