Cowgirls Fall to No. 8 Texas in Austin
March 25, 2018 | Cowgirl Tennis
AUSTIN, Texas – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 match to No. 8 Texas on Sunday afternoon, snapping an eight-match winning streak and a string of five consecutive wins over the Longhorns.
"Today was not one of our best performances and credit Texas for playing a great match," head coach Chris Young said. "This is a great learning opportunity and a chance to grow as we look toward the second half of the season. These girls will continue to compete and I'm confident they will respond in a great way."
The Cowgirls (12-2, 3-1 Big 12) couldn't pick up the doubles point to open the match, coming up short on courts two and three to give Texas an early, 1-0 lead. OSU did snag a win in the top doubles position as Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco registered a 6-4 win over No. 44 Petra Granic and Bojana Markovic for the pair's fourth-straight win and ninth win over a ranked opponent.
After taking the doubles point, the Longhorns picked up a trio of straight-set wins to put the Cowgirls away.
Babic dropped a tough, 6-1, 6-0 match to top-ranked Bianca Turati on court one for her first loss since February to give Texas a 2-0 lead.
Katarina Stresnakova also took her first loss in a number of matches to No. 77 Petra Granic in a 6-4, 6-0 match on court three. The Cowgirl saw her 13-match win streak dating back to January come to an end.
Texas clinched the match on court six, as Shir Hornung was defeated by Katie Poluta, 6-1, 6-2.
The Cowgirls will be back in action next weekend with a pair of matches in their home state. The team will serve up the weekend on Friday as it hosts No. 33 Wichita State at 3 p.m. The Pokes will then travel to Norman for a noon showdown on Saturday.
