MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The 56th-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team completed a weekend sweep of conference opponents with a 7-2 win over No. 42 Kansas State at the Washburn Tennis Facility. The Cowgirls knocked off Missouri, 8-1, on Friday and downed Kansas, 7-2, on Saturday.
OSU, 13-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12, won five out of six singles matches to end the Wildcats' eight match winning streak. The loss dropped Kansas State to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
"Our girls have been incredible. They came into a hostile environment as the underdog and took control of a great team," head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski said. "We have been getting outstanding play from everyone and have been solid throughout the entire lineup."
At No. 1 singles, Maria Galoustova cruised to a straight-set win over 49th-ranked Petra Sedlmajerova, 6-1, 6-1. The win was Galoustova's fifth consecutive and ran her record to 12-4 on the season.
Linda Faltynkova improved to 15-1 on the season in dominating fashion, defeating Anna Pampoulova, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 3 position. The freshman ran her winning streak to 14 consecutive matches and has won her last nine matches in straight sets.
However, the Cowgirls' most impressive wins may have come at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions.
At the No. 4 spot, Ashleigh Dolman overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first set to defeat Eva Novotna in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Freshman Erin Pauchnik overcame a severe ankle injury early in the second set to defeat Natalia Farmer, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 6 slot.
"I can't say enough about the performances of those two girls. The were warriors out there today," Lubicz-Majewski said. "They were representative of how everyone on our team goes out and battles every match."
The Cowgirls claimed two out of three doubles contests to close out the match's scoring. The nationally-ranked tandem of Dolman and Galoustova won 8-4 to improve to 11-7 on the season. At the No. 2 position, Marketa Chmelova and Faltynkova rose to 10-4 with their fifth consecutive victory.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Thursday when they host No. 23 Tulsa at 2 p.m.
