STILLWATER – Oklahoma State returned to Big 12 Conference action Friday night and suffered a 9-3 loss to Baylor at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

With the loss, OSU fell to 24-22 overall and 6-12 in conference play, while BU is now 30-17 and 9-10 in the league.

Garrett McCain and Ryan Cash each had three hits apiece for the Cowboys, with McCain raising his Big 12-best batting average to .391.

Tyler Buffett suffered the loss to fall to 5-5 on the season. The senior right-hander allowed nine runs on 13 hits, with only three of the runs being earned due to three OSU errors.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third as T.J. Raguse and Richard Cunningham recorded back-to-back RBI singles, and in the fourth, they extended that advantage to five as they plated three runs on four hits.

OSU was poised to cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth. After consecutive singles by McCain and Garrett Benge to lead off the inning, the Cowboys had runners on the corners with outs. But Baylor's Nick Lewis struck out the next three batters to end the threat.

BU racked up six hits and four runs in the sixth inning, with a throwing error by shortstop Jacob Chappell making each of the runs unearned.

Trailing 9-0, OSU loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth but only managed one run, that coming as Cash came home to score when Colin Simpson grounded into a double play.

OSU also loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, and pinch hitter Bryce Fishcer collected the Cowboys' only RBIs of the night when he brought home a pair of runs with a single through the right side.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.
