Cowgirl Soccer Top 20 Moments, 1996-2014
July 30, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, who each have been with the program since its inception and served stints as head coaches to help build the program into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top 20 moments in Cowgirl soccer history. Over the next month, we'll reveal their list (which is in no particular order) on www.okstate.com.
Beating Texas Tech 2-0 in a nationally televised match to clinch the Big 12 regular season championship in 2011
Oklahoma State closed out the 2011 regular season in impressive fashion as the Cowgirls clinched their fourth consecutive Big 12 championship with a 2-0 win over Texas Tech in Stillwater.
A raucous crowd of nearly 1,300 fans at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex, along with a national television audience tuning in for the NSCAA College Game of the Week, watched as second-ranked OSU capped its Big 12 schedule with a 6-0-2 league mark (17-0-2 overall).
The regular season championship was the second in program history as the '11 squad joined the 2008 Cowgirls in achieving that feat.
A pair of unassisted goals by Taylor Mathews and Kyndall Treadwell secured the trophy for the Cowgirls. Mathews' score came in the 40th minute when she delivered a corner kick that deflected off a TTU defender into the net, and Treadwell provided a highlight-reel moment when she blasted a shot from 22-yards out top shelf to help seal the win in the 64th minute.
All-American goalie AD Franch recorded seven saves against the Red Raiders, who outshot OSU 17-15 on the night, as OSU tied a program record with its 14th shutout of the season.
Colin Carmichael: "The atmosphere really stands out to me. It was a packed house, a national TV game, and Tech was very good. They didn't make it easy for us — I think they hit the post in the first minute and kind of woke us up. Then we scored a goal late in the first half, it was kind of a deflected goal, and that set the tone for the second half. In the second half, we found our stride.
"Another thing that stands out in that game is that I had just gotten on Kyndall Treadwell and yelled at her about not playing well or not doing something we wanted and about a minute later, she hits some unbelievable half volley into the top 90 to help us win the game.
"And then after the game, getting the trophy and celebrating with our fans was really cool."
