STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State lost for just the fourth time at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium this season as Ohio State defeated the 25th-ranked Cowboys, 4-0, Wednesday night.
The loss snapped a streak of 10-straight wins for OSU on its home field, a streak that dated back to March 18, as the Cowboys fell to 29-19 on the season.
OSU managed just three hits in the contest, all of them singles, with Robbie Rea going 2-for-3 at the plate. Hunter Bailey had the Cowboys' other hit.
Kyle Ottoson suffered the loss on the mound as the senior southpaw lasted just 1.1 innings and fell to 4-7. He allowed three runs, two of them earned, despite Ohio State failing to get a hit against him.
In the top of the second inning, Ottoson surrendered one of his four walks in the game to open the frame. He followed that with another free pass before striking out Brad Hutton.
With two on and one out, Mike Carroll stole third, and David Corna walked on four-straight pitches to load the bases and end Ottoson's night on the mound.
Kenton Bevacqua came out of the OSU bullpen and got a ground ball off the bat of Kirby Pellant, but a pair of runs scored after an error by Hunter Bailey. Up next, Greg Solomon laid down a bunt single that brought home another run and made the score 3-0 before Bevacqua retired the next two Buckeyes to get out of the inning.
The Cowboys' biggest scoring threat came in the sixth when Bailey and Rea delivered back-to-back singles with two outs. But Jared Womack grounded out on a check swing on the first pitch he saw from reliever Andrew Armstrong to end the inning.
The shutout marked the first time OSU has been blanked at home this season.
The Cowboys return to action Friday at 6:30 p.m. when they open a three-game series against Alcorn State at Reynolds Stadium.
