Durham, N.C.- Third baseman Josh Fields delivered a game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning to lead Oklahoma State to a 2-1 win over Duke in baseball action Monday afternoon at Jake Coombs Field.
Centerfielder Jose Virgil walked with one out in the eighth and advanced to second on a groundout by shortstop Chris Gutierrez. After Virgil stole third, Fields singled back up the middle to score the winning run.
Oklahoma State improved to 12-7 on the season while Duke fell to 12-10 with the loss.
Reliever Shane Hawk (4-0) picked up the win with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief while Blue Devil reliever Kevin Thompson took the loss to drop to 2-4. Hawk allowed just two hits in the outing while walking one and striking out six.
Rightfielder Lyndsey Simmons led the offense with two hits on the afternoon.
Duke took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring an unearned run on starter Joe Weaver courtesy of a sacrifice fly by rightfielder Brian Patrick.
The Cowboys tied the game in the fourth when designated hitter Mario Matulich roped a RBI single to left, scoring first baseman John Urick.
Oklahoma State will close out its five-game North Carolina trip tomorrow against Wake Forest at 3 p.m. in Winston-Salem.
