Cowboy Baseball Upsets No. 8 Texas 4-3

STILLWATER, Okla.- The battery of pitcher Scott Baker and catcher Jason Jaramillo led Oklahoma State past Texas 4-3 in Big 12 baseball action Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Jaramillo went 2-for-3 at the plate with a homer, double and four RBIs to lead the Cowboys to the win in their conference opener.
OSU is now 13-7 on the year and 1-0 in Big 12 play, while Texas dropped to 18-9 and 3-1 in league action.
Baker allowed one run in 7.1 innings of work to improve to 4-3 on the year. He struck two and gave up two hits in the win.
Catcher Jason Jaramillo staked the Cowboys to a 2-0 lead in the fourth with a two-run homer to right-center, his first round-tripper of the year.
UT first baseman Curtis Thigpen's solo homer in the sixth cut the lead to 2-1.
OSU pushed the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a RBI double by Jaramillo that plated first baseman John Urick who reached before on him with a double of his own.
Jaramillo added his fourth RBI of the day in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Longhorns rallied in the bottom of the ninth when third baseman J.D. Reininger reached on an error by second baseman Brian Kraft and scored on catcher Taylor Teagarden's homer to left off of reliever Shane Hawk. Junior right hander Daniel Rew came in to end the threat, retiring the final two batters of the game and picking up his second save of the year.
Danny Muegge took the loss for the Longhorns to drop to 4-3. He gave up three runs on six hits with a career-high seven strikeouts.
Teagarden led the Longhorns with a 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate. Cowboy first baseman John Urick also had two hits in the winning effort.
Game two of the three game series is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow. Sophomore southpaw Spencer Grogan is slated to take the fill for the Cowboys while the Longhorns will counter with sophomore lefty J.P. Howell.
