STILLWATER – Oklahoma State forced a rubber game in its series with Texas by handing the Longhorns a 4-1 loss Saturday night at O'Brate Stadium.
With the victory, the 13th-ranked Cowboys moved to 21-7 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play, while the 15th-ranked Longhorns had their 16-game winning streak snapped and fell to 20-7 and 4-1 in the league.
Juaron Watts-Brown showed up big on the mound to move his record to 4-1. The right-hander worked a season-high eight innings and racked up 12 strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits. It marked the sophomore's third outing of the season with double-digit strikeouts as he moved his Big 12-leading total to 67.
Isaac Stebens came on and worked a scoreless ninth, recording a pair of strikeouts and earning his first-career save.
Colin Brueggemann led the Pokes at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Carson Benge also joined the RBI conversation, racking up two of his own with a 1-for-4 effort.
In the second inning, Brueggemann tallied the first entry on the scoreboard, recording an RBI single up the middle, but Texas responded in the third when Dylan Campbell cranked an RBI triple off the left-field wall to tie the score at 1-1.
OSU reclaimed its lead for good in the fourth as Benge brought home a run on a fielder's choice and then scored from first on a double off the bat of Brueggemann.
The Pokes pushed their lead to 4-1 in the sixth on another RBI by Benge, this one on a groundout.
Watts-Brown allowed a leadoff walk in the seventh but responded by striking out the next two Horns before getting an inning-ending groundout. He would retire the side in order in the eighth, finishing with his 128th pitch of the contest.
Sunday's series rubber game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
