Meet Notes (PDF)
The Basics
No. 5 Oklahoma State Equestrian is back home on Saturday for a Jumping-Seat only meet against the top-ranked single discipline team, the University of Lynchburg. The Cowgirls are 6-4 on the season, including a 4-2 mark in Big 12, after splitting a two-meet trip to California on Friday and Saturday. First, they beat No. 10 UC Davis, 13-7, before falling to No. 9 Fresno State, 10-9, to round out their Big 12 schedule. Lynchburg is 7-3 on the season and brings a three-meet win streak to Stillwater.
About the Cowgirls
The Cowgirls are led by 24th-year head coach Larry Sanchez, fourth-year assistant Laura Brainard and first-year assistant Carter Anderson.
Fresh Face on Staff
Carter Anderson joined the Cowgirl staff as the Jumping Seat assistant coach after one season at UT-Martin, where she was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Equestrian Assistant Coach of the Year. In her one season on the UT-Martin staff, Anderson oversaw a group of jumping seat riders that was amongst the ECAC conference's best. The jumping unit collected 44 victories and 10 MOPs in fences to go along with 38 wins and eight MOPs in flat.
Defending Our Turf
The Cowgirls have been dominant in Stillwater, winning 29 of their last 31 home meets dating back to 2018, including a stretch of 20 in a row. OSU is 4-1 at home this season, with three of the wins coming against ranked opponents (Georgia, Baylor and TCU).
Making History
Oklahoma State entered the 2022-23 season as the defending NCEA National Champions after winning the first overall title in program history last spring. The Cowgirls also became the first women's team in OSU history to win a national championship in any sport.
Conference Leaders
The Cowgirls went 9-1 against Big 12 opponents last season, including two wins on their way to a title at the Big 12 Championship and two more at the NCEA National Championships. This year they are 4-2 in conference meets, putting them in a tie atop the Big 12 standings with TCU heading into the conference tournament.
Well-Deserved Recognition
Oklahoma State has now had two riders be recognized with monthly awards this season. In November, Jojo Roberson was named both the NCEA and Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Month after going 2-0 while earning MOP in both meets. Sydney North became the latest Cowgirl to earn a monthly award last week as she was named the Big 12 Fences Rider of the Month for February. North went 3-0 in the month while earning two MOPs along the way.
An Oklahoma State Win Would...
- Improve the Cowgirls to 1-0 in the Lynchburg series.
- Improve the Cowgirls to 4-0 in meets directly following a loss this season.
- Improve the Cowgirls to 5-1 at home this season.
- Give it five-straight wins in single discipline meets.
Coach's Thoughts
"We are excited to be back at home this weekend," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "This is a Jumping-Seat only event against the defending single discipline national champion team with a current number-one ranking amongst single discipline schools. It should be a great event."
Cowgirls To Watch
• Senior Sydney North's hot start to the spring didn't slow down in California, winning both of her points and earning another MOP in the process. She is 5-0 with three MOPs in five spring meets.
• Captain Grace McReynolds has quickly become a dual-threat for the Cowgirls this spring, winning her first-career MOP in only her fourth-career Fences ride at UC Davis. The junior is now 6-4 on the season in Flat and 2-2 in Fences.
• Riley Hogan has been dominant in Fences all season long, but she added to her resume on Friday, winning her first-career point in Flat against UC Davis. The sophomore is now 9-2 on the season in Fences and 1-2 in Flat.
• Emma Pacyna continues to quietly put together a strong senior campaign, suffering only her second loss of the season in the trip to California. She is now 8-2 on the season in Fences with wins in four of her last five meets.
• Ella Reinauer has battled through some tough breaks this season, often finding herself up against the opposing team's top scorer in Flat. Nonetheless, the junior has managed a 5-6 record on the season, including wins in two of her last three meets.
