Meet Notes (PDF)
The Basics
No. 7 Oklahoma State Equestrian will travel to Waco, Texas, to take on Baylor it its first conference meet of the spring. The Cowgirls are coming off a home win over No. 5 Georgia, 11-8, to open the spring. The Bears are returning home after a weekend in California in which they defeated Minnesota Crookston before falling to Big 12 foe Fresno State.
About the Cowgirls
The Cowgirls are led by 24th-year head coach Larry Sanchez, fourth-year assistant Laura Brainard and first-year assistant Carter Anderson.
Fresh Face on Staff
Carter Anderson joined the Cowgirl staff as the Jumping Seat assistant coach after one season at UT-Martin, where she was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Equestrian Assistant Coach of the Year. In her one season on the UT-Martin staff, Anderson oversaw a group of jumping seat riders that was amongst the ECAC conference's best. The jumping unit collected 44 victories and 10 MOPs in fences to go along with 38 wins and eight MOPs in flat.
Oklahoma State vs. Baylor: Round One
The Cowgirls routed Baylor in the teams' first meeting in the fall, winning 17-3 in Stillwater. The 14-point margin of victory marked the largest in Oklahoma State program history against a conference opponent. OSU earned two MOPs in the meet: Emma Pacyna in Fences and Claire McDowall in Horsemanship.
Making History
Oklahoma State entered the 2022-23 season as the defending NCEA National Champions after winning the first overall title in program history last spring. The Cowgirls also became the first women's team in OSU history to win a national championship in any sport.
Conference Leaders
The Cowgirls went 9-1 against Big 12 opponents last season, including two wins on their way to a title at the Big 12 Championship and two more at the NCEA National Championships.
Newcomers Making an Impact
Five Cowgirls made their collegiate debuts in the fall (Tristan Bagby, Payton Baxter, Mackenzie Carreras, Elizabeth Carter and June Roberson) and found success in doing so, going 4-1 in those rides. Freshman Tristan Bagby has been an important addition to the Western squad, boasting a 2-1-2 record in the fall while riding in every meet. Sophomore Peyton Baxter also stepped up in a big way, going 2-2 in her four meets.
An Oklahoma State Win Would...
- Improve the Cowgirls to 24-8 in the Baylor series.
- Give in 10-striaght wins against the Bears.
- Give it 14 wins in the last 15 meetings.
- Give it four wins in its last five meets.
Coach's Thoughts
"We are looking forward to our first road meet of the spring," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "Baylor is a very good team, and we're riding with a lot of confidence right now. This should make for a very good competition."
