Series History: OSU Opens Conference Play Against Baylor
September 29, 2022 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State Cowboy football team travels to Waco to start Big 12 Conference play against Baylor on Saturday.
Saturday's game will mark the 42nd meeting between the two teams in a series that dates to 1914. It will also mark the 27th consecutive season the programs have faced off, which dates to the first season of Big 12 Conference play in 1996. Holding a 22-19 overall series lead, OSU has won 19 of the past 27 matchups. In Waco, the Bears hold a 9-7 record all-time against the Cowboys. In OSU's last trip to McLane Stadium, the Cowboys defeated BU handedly, 42-3, on Dec. 12, 2020, led by Spencer Sanders' 347 yards and three touchdowns through the air.
The teams split a two-game series last season with the Cowboys winning the regular season contest in Stillwater, 24-14, while the Bears won the second, being last year's tightly-contested Big 12 Championship. After falling behind 21-3 in the second quarter, Oklahoma State rallied back and had a chance to take the lead, but were held short of the goal line on fourth down with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game. Baylor won the game, 21-16, taking the Big 12 title and knocking the fifth-ranked Cowboys out of contention for a spot in the four-team College Football Playoff.
This season, the teams meets as the highest-ranked members of the conference as No. 9 OSU enters the game undefeated, and No. 16 Baylor has started 3-1 with a victory against Iowa State last weekend.
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is 10-8 in his career against Baylor, while Baylor coach Dave Aranda is 1-2 against Gundy and the Cowboys. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday and will be televised on FOX.
