Cowboy Baseball Mourns Loss Of Bob Andrew

STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State standout Bob Andrew passed away last week at the age of 88.
Andrew starred on the baseball diamond for the Cowboys and was part of their 1959 NCAA championship team. He also spent two seasons as a quarterback for the then-Oklahoma A&M football team.
A Stillwater native, Andrew joined the Oklahoma A&M football and baseball teams in 1952. During the 1954 season, he hit .308 with three home runs and 18 RBIs for the Aggies.
After being drafted into and serving in the United States Army, during which he spent time as a Guard of Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Andrew returned to Stillwater and OSU and rejoined the baseball team.
Andrew's first season back in the orange and black saw him play shortstop for the 1959 national champion Cowboys as he hit .280 with a team-high nine doubles to go along with 22 RBIs.
In 1960, Andrew was a team captain for a team that finished third at the College World Series, and he led the Cowboys with a .319 batting average and 16 RBIs.
In 85 career games, Andrew posted a .299 batting average and added five homers, 15 doubles, six triples and 56 RBIs.
Following his collegiate career, Andrew worked in education in Texas and spent time as a high school coach, teacher and assistant principal until his retirement in 1991.
