Cowgirls Set To Open Fall Campaign At Pebble Beach On Friday
September 01, 2022 | Cowgirl Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women's golf is set to open the 2022-23 season on Friday with the Carmel Cup at the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California. The 54-hole event will feature eight teams at the par-72, 6,156-yard layout.
This season-opener will be a special event to be a part of, as the Pebble Beach Golf Links is widely viewed as one of America's most beautiful courses, running right along the coastline with wide open views of the Pacific Ocean.
To go along with the scenery, this will be the first-ever women's rendition of the Carmel Cup, having only been played by men's teams since its creation in 2011.
The competitive playing field includes Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt, as well as in-state rival Oklahoma and the reigning national champions, Stanford.
Standout Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, the 2021-22 Big 12 Player of the Year and second team All-American, will lead the Cowgirl lineup. Hinson-Tolchard put together a stellar sophomore campaign, which included six top-10 finishes and two tournament titles, highlighted by an individual win at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
A junior, she led the 2021-22 OSU squad in both rounds played with 37 and stroke average at 71.65, while also shooting nine rounds in 60's and 22 below par. Her mark of .05 vs. par last season ranks as fifth best in program history.
Han-Hsuan Yu is set to return to the Oklahoma State lineup following a marvelous run during the spring schedule. Yu posted top-10 finishes in four of the final seven tournaments of the year, and carded five consecutive rounds in the 60's in the midst of March.
Hailey Jones and Rina Tatematsu will also join the Cowgirl lineup in Pebble Beach. Jones was tied for second on the team in tournaments played last season with 11, while Tatematsu recorded a stroke average of 72.96 in 25 rounds.
Freshmen newcomers Cecilie Leth-Nissen of Denmark and Thailand native Thitaporn Saithip round out the lineup, as both will make their first career starts as Cowgirls.
Leth-Nissen has been ranked as high as 275th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings prior to joining the Oklahoma State program. Meanwhile, Saithip finished with five top-10 performances in just ten tournaments while competing in the American Junior Golf Association.
The Cowgirls are coming off a season in which they won four tournaments and finished in the top-3 of every regular season tournament before reaching the NCAA Championships for a second-straight year.
To open the 2021-22 season, Oklahoma State ran away with the title at the Sam Golden Invitational, winning the trophy by 13 strokes at 36-under.
