Four Cowboys Named to Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List
August 24, 2022 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Reese's Senior Bowl announced its 2023 Senior Bowl Watch List Wednesday morning that included Oklahoma State's Spencer Sanders, Tyler Lacy, Brock Martin and Jason Taylor II.
The returning first team All-Big 12 quarterback after leading the conference in total offense and total offense per game in 2021, Sanders has 24 wins as OSU's starting quarterback and needs eight more to tie Mason Rudolph for the most wins as a starting quarterback in school history heading into his senior season.
His 6,911 career passing yards total ranks among the top 10 of all returning Power Five players and ranks as the second-most in school history for any player entering his senior season.
Martin, an established veteran on the defensive side of the ball, heads into his super senior season in 2023. His 50 career games played in are the most on the OSU roster and his 22 career starts are tied for second most on the defense entering 2022. He comes off his best season of his career in 2021 where he was selected to the All-Big 12 First Team by the coaches in the conference after racking up 41 tackles, which were most on the OSU defensive line, and ranked second in sacks (9.0) and third in tackles for loss (14.0).
The only Cowboy defender with more career starts than Martin is fellow defensive lineman, Tyler Lacy, who has started 35 games during his OSU career and has 31 consecutive starts dating back to 2019. Lacy enjoyed a breakthrough sophomore season in 2020 only to top those numbers as a junior last year when he racked up 34 tackles and 11 tackles-for-loss. After earning honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition from the coaches in 2020 and 2021, Lacy enters his senior season as the highest-graded returning defensive player for Oklahoma State, according to Pro Football Focus.
One of the top returning defensive playmakers in college football, Taylor II became one of the most impactful players on OSU's defense in his first season as a full-time starter. An honorable mention All-Big 12 selection a season ago, Taylor II has built a big-play reputation throughout his career at OSU as he ranks fifth among all active FBS players entering 2022 with three non-offensive touchdowns in his career. He begins his senior season as the leader and lone returning starter in OSU's young secondary.
The Senior Bowl watch list is composed of 484 position players who are eligible to play in the game as either a 2018 high school graduate or true four-year player. This year's game will be played on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the University of South Alabama's Hancock Whitney Stadium and will be broadcasted on the NFL Network.
Oklahoma State is scheduled to open the 2022 season September 1 when it faces Central Michigan at Boone Pickens Stadium, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. CT on FS1.
