December 02, 2022 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State track & field will open its 2022-23 indoor schedule with a trip to Boston University for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday.
Seven middle-distance and distance athletes will compete for the Cowboys and Cowgirls following the conclusion of the cross country season two weeks ago.
On the men's side, cross country All-Americans Alex Maier and Isai Rodriguez will be competing in the men's 5,000 Meters and fellow All-American Fouad Messaoudi will be competing in the men's 3,000 Meters.
Maier currently holds the school record in the 5,000 Meters with a time of 13:25.79 set in last year's Husky Classic. Messaoudi's personal-best 3,000 Meter time of 7:50.72 currently stands sixth in program history and was run on Boston's track last season.
On the women's side, Gabija Galvydyte and Stephanie Moss will officially be the first two competitors of the season for OSU as they compete in the women's Mile. Galvydyte finished last indoor season as a second-team All-American in the 800 Meters before exploding for a 3rd-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the same event. In her last full indoor season, Moss finished as a first-team All-American as a member of the fourth-place Cowgirl DMR squad at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Big 12 Women's Cross Country Newcomer of the Year Natalie Cook will be making her track debut for the Cowgirls in a loaded 5,000 Meter field. Cook set the outdoor national high school 5K record last season at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 15:25.93 and will face off with several fellow cross country All-Americans from a few weeks ago on Saturday.
Fellow Cowgirl freshman Cayden Dawson will also be making her track debut in the orange and black Saturday in the women's 3,000 Meters. She competed unattached for the Cowgirls during the cross country season, recording a 53rd-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree in September.
The entirety of the meet will be streamed live on FloTrack starting at 9:00 a.m. CT. Live results can be found here.
All seven Cowboys and Cowgirls will be aiming to set fast times on Saturday as the top 16 times in each event across the country throughout the season will qualify for the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships held in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 10-11.
