Series History: OSU Looks to Continue Success at Home Against Iowa State
November 10, 2022 | Cowboy Football
The Oklahoma State Cowboy football team returns home for a matchup against Iowa State on Saturday's "blackout" game at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Saturday's game marks the 57th meeting between the two squads in a series that dates to 1926. The 2022 season also marks the 12th consecutive year the teams have met. OSU holds a 33-20-3 all-time advantage in the series, including an 18-7-2 advantage in Stillwater. The Cowboys have had control of the series in recent memory, winning 10 of the past 13 matchups, as well as six of the past seven played in Stillwater. The past seven matchups between the Cowboys and Cyclones have been tightly contested and have been decided by less than seven points in all.
Last time the Cyclones came to Stillwater, Spencer Sanders threw for 235 yards and ran for an additional 71 and a touchdown in a 24-21 victory in 2020. Running back Chuba Hubbard led the rushing attack with 139 rushing yards and a touchdown to improve OSU to 4-0 on the season and keep them undefeated in Big 12 play.
Iowa State came away with its own 24-21 victory at home in Ames last season, despite Sanders' tossing three touchdowns through the air. The Cyclones took the lead after running back Breece Hall scored with just over five minutes remaining in the game and sealed the game when their defense forced an OSU turnover on downs.
Iowa State enters Saturday's matchup 4-5 overall and 1-5 in conference play, but are coming off its first conference win last week against West Virginia. The Cowboys are 6-3 overall and 3-3 against Big 12 opponents. OSU looks to get back in the win column after suffering two-straight losses for the first time since 2019. Mike Gundy is 10-4 in his career against the Cyclones and has never lost in consecutive years to Iowa State. Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is 2-4 against the Cowboys. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU.
