San Jose del Cabo, Mexico — Oklahoma State's men's golf team picked up its third consecutive Querencia Cabo Collegiate title on Tuesday, cruising to an eight-shot victory at Querencia Golf Club after carding a closing round of 10-under 274.
For the top-ranked Cowboys, who finished with a 32-under total of 820, the win was their fourth of the season. Arizona State finished second at 24-under 828, while Baylor was third with its 843 score at the par-71, 6,924-yard layout.
OSU's victory came without the services of the No. 1-ranked player in the country, junior Viktor Hovland, who is competing at the PGA Tour's Arnold Palmer Invitational this week.
Individually, sophomore Austin Eckroat kept the Cowboys' string of medalists in tact for the year. OSU has produced the individual champion in all seven of its events this year and Eckroat became the third Cowboy to emerge victorious this season. The Cowboys' seven medalists are now tied for the third-best total on the school's single-season list.
Eckroat carded a closing 67 to finish at 14-under 199 and two shots clear of sophomore teammate Matthew Wolff. After using a 63 during his second round to move into the top spot on the leaderboard, Eckroat followed with his 4-under tally in the third round. He opened with four consecutive pars before carding his lone birdie on the outward nine at the fifth. After making the turn at 1-over 37, Eckroat lit up his second nine with five birdies to come home in 30.
For the Edmond, Okla., native, the win was the second of his career. Eckroat won the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate as a freshman last season.
For Wolff, who has four victories to his credit on the year, the runner-up showing was his first of the season. He used a 7-under 64 to finish at 12-under 201. The sophomore's bogey-free final round included five birdies and an eagle.
Senior Hayden Wood earned a top-10 finish, signing for a 71 to finish at 5-under 208 and alone in sixth place.
Senior Zach Bauchou posted a 72 to finish at 1-under 212 and tied for 15th place.
Competing individually, freshman Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen finished in a tie for 40th place at 222 after posting a final round of 76.
Freshman Aman Gupta carded his low round of the event, a 72, to finish at 223 and tied for 45th place.
