LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State dropped the second game in its series at fourth-ranked Texas Tech Saturday as the Cowboys suffered an 8-2 setback at Rip Griffin Park.

With the loss, OSU fell to 22-16 overall and 5-9 in Big 12 Conference play, while TTU is now 33-9 and 9-5 in the league. The two teams will play the rubber game of the series Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tyler Buffett took the loss on the mound to fall to 5-3 on the season. The senior right-hander allowed seven runs, five of them earned, in six innings as TTU collected 12 hits against him.

The Cowboys managed just four hits in the contest, with Michael Neustifter and Garrett McCain collecting RBIs.

OSU took the game's initial lead on a solo home run by Neustifter in the third, with the OSU freshman sending a shot over the right field wall for his third round tripper of the season.

The Red Raiders would answer with a four-spot in the bottom of the inning, however, to go on top for good. TTU collected four hits in the frame and took advantage of a throwing error by third baseman Garrett Benge that led to a pair of unearned runs.

TTU extended its lead against Buffett in the sixth when Orlando Garcia smacked his team-leading ninth homer of the season, a two-run shot to right field that made the score 6-1.

The home team added two more runs in the seventh inning on RBI hits from Hunter Hargrove, who drove in three runs in the contest, and Michael Davis.

OSU plated its final run in the ninth. Pinch hitter Cade Cabbiness led off the inning with a double, and Garrett McCain brought him home with a two-out double down the left-field line to provide the final 9-2 margin.
