STILLWATER, Okla. ---- Oklahoma State Softball drop its final game of the Mizuno Classic Sunday against Northern Iowa, 11-5, at Cowgirl Stadium. Despite the loss, the Cowgirls went 4-1 over the weekend and finished with a 12-9 overall record.

"4-1 is not bad," said head coach Kenny Gajewski. "It's just hard when it's the last day and you don't play well. It felt like we played pretty dang good up to this point. When you lose the last one it's really tough. Good weekend as a whole. We did some good things. We're starting to swing the bats a little bit more. We're starting to get some more hits. We're continuing to walk and stuff, so I feel better about that. Defense was solid for the most part. I think we'll continue to improve there, but it's just tough when it's the last day."

Northern Iowa got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning.

OSU rallied to tie the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the home half of second frame. Mackenzie Thomas cut the deficit to 2-1 with an RBI single through the right side. Later in the inning, Rylee Bayless drew a five-pitch walk with bases loaded to score Kristin Reasnor making it 2-2.

UNI responded with four runs in the third and one in the next two innings to jump out to an 8-3 lead. The Panthers added two more in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it 11-4.

Vanessa Shippy blasted her first home run of the year in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-4. She plated OSU's final run in the seventh on an RBI single to left field.

Oklahoma State had 12 hits in the game and five Cowgirls had more than one hit.

Shippy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and runs scored. Taylor Lynch was 2-for-3, while Hayleigh Galvan shined going 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Thomas and Maddi Holcomb each had two hits.

Brandi Needham (6-4) took the loss for the Cowgirls in three innings of work allowing eight hits and six runs.
