Cowgirls Down North Texas In Denton
March 15, 2017 | Cowgirl Softball
DENTON, Texas ---- Oklahoma State softball defeated North Texas 10-2 Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium. Kristin Reasnor's three-run home run in the top of the first gave OSU the early lead it wouldn't surrender.
Â
The Cowgirls scored runs in five of the seven innings on their way to the win.
Â
"I think the chemistry on this team has really started to blossom over the last 10 days," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "This team is really committed to each other. It's been a joy to be around them. A season is a season for a reason. It's up and it's down. They're finding their way. We're pitching well and taking good swings. The defense continues to improve. Just a fun group to be around."
Â
Oklahoma State (19-10) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to Reasnor's fourth home run of the year that scored Alex Edinger and Vanessa Shippy. North Texas responded with a run of its own in the bottom half of the first inning to make it 3-1.
Â
The Cowgirls scored one in the second on a wild pitch that brought home Rylee Bayless from third and added two more runs in the third thanks to a Bayless RBI double to take a 6-1 lead.
Â
North Texas responded with a run in the bottom of the third to cut the OSU lead to 6-2.
Â
OSU continued its scoring ways in the bottom of the sixth with Jessi Haffners RBI double that scored Vanessa Shippy making it 7-2.
Â
Reasnor led the way at the plate for the Cowgirls going 1-for-2 with three RBIs including the home run and two walks. Bayless was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Â
"I'm just seeing better pitches," Reasnor said. "Not swinging at balls. It's resulted in better results."
Â
Brandi Needham (9-4) earned the win in the circle for the Cowgirls going seven innings allowing just five hits and two runs.
Â
The win moved the Cowgirl winning streak to three games. OSU has outscored its last seven opponents 87-21.
