Cowboys Remain Atop Leaderboard In Mexico

QUERENCIA, Mexico – Oklahoma State's men's golf team used a 5-under 279 during its second round at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Monday to gain sole possession of first place at Querencia Golf Club.
After posting the day's low round, the Cowboys stand at 16-under 552 and three shots clear of Texas, who entered the round tied for the lead with OSU. Baylor finished the day at 564 and in third place at the par-71, 6,928-yard layout.
Texas' Steven Chervony posted a 68 during his second round to move into first place in the individual race at 8-under 134.
Kristoffer Ventura fired a 67 on Monday to lead the Cowboys' starting five, vaulting 11 spots into a tie for second place with Texas' Doug Ghim at 136.
The junior began his day at the third hole and quickly moved into red figures with a birdie at the par-5 fourth hole. After recording another birdie at the ninth, Ventura moved to 3-under with a birdie at the 15th. He followed his lone bogey of the day at the 16th with a birdie at the 18th for a back nine of 1-under 34. He closed his round with a birdie at the second, giving him an outward nine of 3-under 33.
Sophomore Hayden Wood finished the day inside the top 10 as well, posting a 70 during his second round to stand in a tie for seventh place at 138.
Senior Zachary Olsen followed an opening 68 with a 71 to stand at 139 and tied for 12th place. Also in the group at 139 was sophomore Zach Bauchou, who posted a 71 on Monday as well.
Freshman Viktor Hovland carded a 74, giving him a 144 total and tying him for 29th place.
OSU will begin its final round tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CST) and will be grouped with Texas, Baylor and Washington. Live scoring for the event is available at golfstat.com.
