Reasnor Grand Slam Seals Series Win
March 20, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
Houston, Texas--- Red Reasnor's grand slam paved the way for a 7-3 Oklahoma State win over Houston Sunday at Cougar Stadium.
The win sealed the series win for the Cowgirls as they took two-of-three games to improve to 14-12 on the season.
"I felt like this was another opportunity for this program to take some steps forward," Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "I challenged the team. We came out and took some good at-bats. Kacy (Freeze) obviously helped. I just felt really good about coming here. It's our first three-game set on the road so it's prepared us for league. I'm just very happy to be driving home having these two wins."
Oklahoma State found itself trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the third, but quickly loaded the bases with no outs. Reasnor stepped into the box, and delivered with a powerful shot over the left field fence to give the Cowgirls a 4-2 lead.
Freshman catcher Berkley Faulkner delieved with a two-run single in the fifth, and plated another run in the seventh to help seal the Oklahoma State win.
"I was more excited because me and our trainer had an agreement going that if I hit a home run this weekend that she was going to have to go to Buc-ee's and buy a T-shirt," Reasnor said. "And I just so happened to hit a grand slam and now she has to buy beaver slippers also."
Alongside Reasnor, Vanessa Shippy led the way at the plate for Oklahoma State, going 2-for-3 on the afternoon. Shippy has now reached base a team-high 22 consecutive games.
Freshman Taylor Lynch also continued her hitting streak, which now stands at nine games. She has also reached base 17 consecutive games.
Freeze picked up her seventh win of the season in the circle, going all seven innings while allowing only seven hits and had three strikeouts.
"Kacy was really strong," Gajewski said. "I saw it right from the first pitch. She wasn't throwing quite as hard as she's thrown in the past but her stuff was going down really hard. They didn't take a lot of good swings at all. I saw that right away."
