Cowgirl Soccer Top 20 Moments, 1996-2014
August 05, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, who each have been with the program since its inception and served stints as head coaches to help build the program into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top 20 moments in Cowgirl soccer history. Over the next month, we'll reveal their list (which is in no particular order) on www.okstate.com.
Winning four consecutive Big 12 Conference championships from 2008-11
Oklahoma State is one of only two programs that can lay claim to winning four consecutive Big 12 Conference soccer championships.
That impressive run spanned from 2008-11 and included two regular season championships and a pair of Big 12 Soccer Championship titles.
The first championship came in 2008 as OSU recorded a 7-1-2 mark to claim a regular season trophy.
In 2009, the Cowgirls entered the Big 12 tourney as the No. 5 seed but knocked off fourth-seeded Nebraska, top-seeded Missouri and second-ranked Texas A&M for the title.
The 2010 season saw OSU celebrate its second-straight Big 12 Championship title. As the tournament's No. 2 seed, the Cowgirls defeated Texas Tech and Nebraska before winning a penalty kick shootout against Bedlam-rival Oklahoma in the final to bring another trophy home to Stillwater. A second regular season title came in 2011 as OSU finished 6-0-2 in league play to hold off TAMU atop the standings.
Texas A&M is the only other program in the 20-year history of the Big 12 Conference to win four-straight league titles as the Aggies were crowned in 2004-07.
Colin Carmichael: "You look back at it, and historically not many others have done that in our league. It's a special achievement. Two of them were tournament and two of them were regular season, and they're equally as hard to do. When you look at it since then, we've been very close to winning, but it's just a hard thing to do because there are so many good teams in our league. To get a championship four years in a row is a testament to how hard those kids worked and how talented we were."
