OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Oklahoma State's Gage Green is one of 10 finalists for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate baseball, it was announced today.
Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates that was announced in March. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Green is a health education and promotion major with a 3.465 grade point average who is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team in 2014.
Green's community volunteer efforts include working with Special Olympics and the Salvation Army, as well as Coaches vs. Cancer and Faith Mission.
On the field, Green has played in nearly 200 games in his OSU career and started the majority of those. This season, while playing both catcher and outfielder for the Cowboys, he is hitting .300 with five home runs, 23 RBIs and 16 stolen bases, and he currently ranks in the top 10 in the Big 12 in four offensive categories.
Fans can help select Green as this year's Senior CLASS Award video via online voting here. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches votes to determine the winner, which will be announced during the College World Series in June.
