Cowboy Football Breaks Into Top Five
November 08, 2015 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team achieved its highest national ranking of the season on Sunday, as the Cowboys were selected at No. 5 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls.
Oklahoma State jumped more than five spots from both of last week's rankings thanks to a decisive 49-29 victory over previously undefeated TCU on Saturday. With the win, OSU moved to 9-0 for only the third time in program history.
At No. 5, this marks the Cowboys' highest national ranking since 2011, when Oklahoma State ended the season at No. 3 after defeating Stanford in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. It also marks the 15th time in school history that OSU has achieved a top-five ranking, 11 of which have come under head coach Mike Gundy.
OSU is now the second-highest ranked squad in the Big 12, trailing only third-ranked Baylor. Oklahoma (No. 11/12) and TCU (No. 12/13) also represent the conference in the polls.
The Cowboys will look to extend their undefeated campaign next weekend, as Oklahoma State takes on Iowa State on Saturday, Nov. 14.
