STILLWATER, Okla. – "How I Got Here" is a series that asks Oklahoma State football players to detail their football background and careers and how they got to where they are now. Today's edition features defensive tackle James Castleman from Amarillo, Texas. His comments:
On how he got into football
"My mom got tired of me being at the house and running around outside with her not knowing where I was at. So she started putting me in sports, and I asked her if I could play football because I saw all of my friends playing football. That's kind of how I got into it as a kid."
On his biggest influence in football
"I kind of pushed myself as a child, but once I got old enough to know what was going on, I'd say my father figure. His name's Michael David. He influenced me a lot; kept pushing me. Him and my high school defensive line coach, Jim Langdon.”
On why he chose defensive tackle
"Honestly I didn't care what I was on the defense, I just wanted to play defense. The fact that I get to hit people and cause conflict for them was good enough for me. I didn't care if I played defensive tackle or end, as long as it was on defense."
On why he chose Oklahoma State
"I picked Oklahoma State because it reminded me of home. It's a lot like home. Everybody here is real friendly, real nice, and everybody is easy to get along with. I enjoyed that aspect of it."
