MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Oklahoma State men's and women's track and field teams finished competition at the Wildcat Invitational this afternoon at Kansas State, where six personal bests were set, and Kirubel Erassa set a meet record.
In their first meet since winter break, the Cowboys finished with a 0-3 dual record.
In the 3,000 meters, the Pokes took the top four finishes. Erassa picked up a first-place finish and a meet record when he crossed the finish line in 8:24.50. Zach Wills (8:30.40) finished second, Kevin Colón (8:34.90) third and David Osborn finished in 8:52.69 for fourth place.
Colón set a personal best in the mile with a time of 4:16.21, which gave him a second-place finish. In the 200 meters, Cody Kenny set a personal best with a time of 23.30.
In the 1,000 meters, Raul Botezan finished in second place with a time of 2:27.09. Austin Wright (2:30.15) set a personal best and finished ninth.
Nick Miller (19.69m/64-7.25) picked up where he left off in December, earning up a first-place finish and a new personal best in the weight throw.
"I thought they performed well, and it was a good day," said head coach Dave Smith. "Nick Miller in the weight throw was really good, and I was really impressed with Adela Hofmannova in the 1,000. All the guys in the 1,000 ran well. Overall, it was great and everyone competed well."
The Cowgirls finished the day with a 2-1 dual record, defeating UMKC and Tulsa.
In the 1,000 meters, Hofmannova finished in first place with a time of 2:51.11, a new personal best. That time also moved her to seventh all-time on the school's record list. Kate Kujawa (2:54.82) finished in second place.
In the 400 meters, Clara Nichols (57.66) finished in first place and Bailey Johnson (1:00.31) finished third. Nichols's time moved her into eighth place on the schools record list.
Jackie Campos placed second in the mile with a time of 5:04.39.
Chase Ealey continued her dominance in the shot put, winning the event for the third time this season. Her throw of 15.80m/51-10.00 set a new personal best and moved her to second all-time on the school's record list.
"This was just one more early season meet, and to get six PRs this early is a good sign because typically we perform better as the season goes along," said Smith "I think we're ahead of where we've been in the past."
Both teams return to action next weekend when they travel back to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the Razorback Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas
