Cowgirls Finish Third In Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Oklahoma State's women's golf team wrapped up its first event of the spring on Tuesday with a third-place showing at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic after carding a 300 during its third round at Rio Mar Country Club.
The Cowgirls posted a 16-over total of 890 to finish four shots behind runner-up Georgia and six shots behind tournament champion LSU. The finish gave OSU its fifth consecutive top-five showing, which includes a pair of victories, under first-year head coach Alan Bratton.
Georgia did produce the event's individual champion in Marta Silva Zamora, who claimed a two-shot victory after a closing 73 gave her a 213 total.
OSU's Kelsey Vines earned a top 10 after moving up one spot into sixth with a 73 to finish at 218. The showing was the fourth top 10 in five starts for the Cowgirl junior this season.
Sophomore Josephine Janson matched Vines for the squad's low round of the day with a 1-over tally to come in at 224 and tied for 17th place.
Sophomore Jayde Panos finished the event tied for 25th at 227 after posting a 76.
Sophomore Amy Ruengmateekhun signed for an 82 during her third round to finish tied for 30th at 229, while junior Hillary Wood's 78 tied her for 38th place at 231.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on March 5 when they take part in the Bruin Wave Invitational in Tarzana, Calif.
