AMES, Iowa - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team dropped its second consecutive contest on Wednesday night, suffering a 73-52 loss to Iowa State in front of 10,470 fans inside Hilton Coliseum.
The Cowgirls fell to 12-6 overall and 4-5 in Big 12 play with the loss, while the Cyclones improved to 12-8 and 3-6.
The two squads battled back and forth throughout the first 20 minutes, producing seven ties and eight lead changes. Neither team led by more than four in the period and the Cyclones headed into the break with a 30-28 advantage.
ISU scored the first seven points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to start the second half and extend the lead to nine. Five minutes into the half, the Cyclones got back-to-back buckets to push the lead into double digits at 43-30, taking advantage of an OSU offensive drought that saw the Cowgirls score just two points through the first nine minutes of the second half.
Toni Young led the Cowgirls with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Hallie Christofferson led all scorers with 20 points and was one of four Cyclones in double figures.
OSU will take the court again on Saturday at noon when they travel to Norman, Okla., to face in-state rival Oklahoma.
