STILLWATER - Oklahoma State will enter the 2011 football season as a member of the top 10. The Cowboys debuted at No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released Thursday.
OSU closed the 2010 season No. 10 in the coaches' voting, marking the Cowboys' first top 10 finish in a national poll since 1984.
Three Big 12 teams are in the preseason top 10 and five are in the top 25. Oklahoma is first, followed by the Cowboys at No. 8 and Texas A&M at No. 9. Those three schools tied for the Big 12 South title last season with each posting a 1-1 record against the other two.
Missouri checks in at No. 21 and Texas is 24th to complete the Big 12's representation in the first poll. Along with its four ranked Big 12 opponents, Oklahoma State will also meet Arizona in 2011. The Wildcats received 28 votes in the first poll.
