Cowgirls Fall to Nebraska 4-3

The 20th-ranked Oklahoma State softball team (37-16, 8-9) fell to No. 16 Nebraska 4-3 on Saturday evening at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
Alysia Hamilton got the first hit of the game in the first inning with a double to left field. She scored on a single from Julie Ward. Junior Chelsea Garcia followed with a home run to centerfield to make the score 3-0. She now leads the team with 12 home runs on the season.
The Huskers (38-12, 8-9) began the bottom of the third with a walk and a single through the left side. Freshman Taylor Edwards followed with a home run to center field to tie the game.
Oklahoma State had a chance to regain the lead in the sixth inning. Ward hit a double to left field and Kelsea Schulz entered the game to pinch run for her at second. Two batters later, Tamara Brown hit a single up the middle but Schulz was thrown out at home to end the inning.
Nebraska's Nikki Haget led off the seventh inning by reaching base on a Cowgirl error. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single to left field by Brooke Thomason.
Sophomore Kat Espinosa threw the complete game for the Cowgirls and falls to 20-7 on the season. She gave up six hits for three earned runs and walked five. Ashley Hagemann picked up the win for the Huskers and improves to 28-11 on the year. She allowed five hits for three earned runs, walked two and struck out seven.
Oklahoma State and Nebraska will play the second game of the weekend series tomorrow at noon.
