Stillwater, Okla. -- Julie Ward hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth, and Kat Espinosa gave up just one hit as No. 19 Oklahoma State defeated No. 24 Auburn 3-2 here Sunday morning in the final game of The Preview Featuring Bedlam.
Auburn (17-2) scored a run in the first without the benefit of a hit. Morgan Estell walked to lead off the game, and advanced to third on a pair of passed balls by Cowgirl catcher Ashley Boyd. After a strikeout, Lauren Guzman laid down a squeeze bunt, scoring Estell from third.
Oklahoma State tied the game in the bottom of the second when Sammy Jo Diffendaffer scored on a double by Boyd that reached the centerfield fence. The Tigers responded and made the score 2-1 when Kyndall White hit a high, towering shot that fell just outside the leftfield fence.
The Cowgirls had an opportunity to put more runs on the board in the third when Chelsea Garcia and Alysia Hamilton led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Ward sacrificed both runners over, but Auburn pitcher Angel Bunner forced a pair of infield pop ups to end the threat.
After a scoreless fourth and with one out in the bottom of the fifth, Garcia singled to centerfield. With two outs, Ward hit a line shot over the fence in right center, her fifth of the season, giving OSU a 3-2 lead.
Espinosa threw her seventh complete game of the season, improving to 9-2. She struck out wix while walking two and giving up just one unearned run.
Oklahoma State (15-5) will host Wichita State on Wednesday, March 9, at 5 pm at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
