Cowgirls Lose Conference Opener

AMES, Iowa (OSU Athletics Iowa State (15-8, 1-0) leadoff hitter, Heidi Kidwell, started the bottom of the first with a solo home run to right field, her first of the season. Designated player Tori Torrescano also hit a solo shot over the fence in the fourth inning to give the Cyclones a 2-0 lead.
Cowgirl senior Alysia Hamilton led off the sixth with a single through the left side. She was followed by Julie Ward with a single up the middle. Junior Chelsea Garcia stepped up and hit a home run over the center field fence to put OSU up 3-2. It was her sixth home run of the season.
However, in the bottom of the sixth, ISU first baseman Erica Miller hit a home run with a runner on second to put the Cyclones ahead for good, 4-3.
Sophomore Kat Espinosa started in the circle for Oklahoma State (27-7, 0-1) and is now 14-3 on the season. She threw six innings, allowed five hits for four runs, struck out six and walked one.
Senior Rachel Zabriskie threw the complete game for Iowa State and improved to 9-4. She threw all seven innings, allowed eight hits for three runs, struck out five and walked three.
The Cowgirls will play the Cyclones again tomorrow at noon.
