Clearwater, Fla. — The 20th-ranked Oklahoma State softball team run-ruled Rutgers 10-2 in six innings in the last day of the USF-The Game Tournament. Senior Ashley Boyd hit two home runs and had three runs batted in and freshman Morgan Hawkins picked up her fifth win of the season. The Cowgirls went 5-0 on the weekend.
The Cowgirls (25-6) scored one run in the first inning when Alysia Hamilton singled to center field. She scored from first on a double by Julie Ward. Oklahoma State added a third run the next inning when Boyd hit her first home run of the game, a solo shot to left field. Hamilton led of the third inning by reaching on an RU error. She advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double from Tamara Brown.
Boyd hit her second home run of the game, a two-run shot over the left field fence, in the fifth inning bringing her season total to three.
Rutgers (11-13) scored their first run in the fourth inning when they had runners on first and third with two outs. The Knights attempted a double steal, resulting in a rundown between first and second. The runner was tagged out but not before the runner on third scored. They scored another run in the fifth from a sacrifice fly to center field.
OSU added another five runs off four hits in the sixth inning, including a two-RBI double from Kelsey Anchors. Cowgirl starter Hawkins is now 5-0 on the season after throwing five innings, allowing four hits for one earned run, striking out two and walking one. Sarah Odom threw the sixth inning and picked up the final three outs while allowing just one hit.
Oklahoma State will play again on Tuesday when they travel to Missouri State and play the Bears at 5 p.m.
