OSU Softball beats MSU in Extra Innings

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (OSU Athletics The game remained scoreless through seven innings but both teams had a couple opportunities to score. For Missouri State (11-11), Raeven Replogle got a double to left field with two outs in the second inning. Lauren Eisenreich followed her with a hit to left field but Ari Morrison threw Replogle out at the plate to end the inning. In the third, the Bears loaded the bases with a hit, a fielder's choice and a Cowgirl error with nobody out. The next batter grounded to Chelsea Garcia at shortstop and she threw home for the force out at the plate. The next batter lined out to Mariah Gearhart at third and she stepped on the bag for the double play.
For Oklahoma State, Sammy Jo Diffendaffer led the third inning off with a hit to center field and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Anchors. However she was stranded at second base as the Cowgirls failed to advance her any further. The Cowgirls had another opportunity in the seventh as Diffendaffer reached on a two-out error and was followed by Amy Graham with a hit, but Gearhart struck out looking at the plate to end the inning.
OSU finally scored in the top of the eighth as Morrison and Alysia Hamilton led off with back-to-back singles. Julie Ward loaded the bases when she reached on a MSU error. Two batters later, Tamara Brown hit a deep sacrifice fly ball to right field and scored Morrison from third.
Freshman Simone Freeman started in the circle and threw the first five scoreless innings allowing three hits, striking out three and walking just one. Sophomore Kat Espinosa took over in the sixth and threw three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. She is now 13-2 on the season.
Natalie Rose threw the complete game for the Bears and is now 6-9. She threw eight innings, allowed seven hits, no earned runs, struck out eight and walked one.
The Cowgirls will play again tomorrow evening at 5:00 at Cowgirl Stadium against the North Texas Mean Green.
