FORT WORTH, Texas - Oklahoma State notched its fourth-straight win with a 4-0 triumph over TCU Sunday at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in front of an over-capacity crowd of 1,616.
Sophomore Megan Marchesano recorded a goal and an assist, and freshman Taylor Mathews netted the first goal of her career as the 14th-ranked Cowgirls improved to 6-1-0 on the season.
The Cowgirls also got a shutout from sophomore goalie AD Franch, who had four saves to pick up her third shutout of the season and 14th of her career. Her 14 career shutouts moved her into a tie for second on OSU's all-time list with Kat Doud.
"It was a great team performance," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "I was really proud of the way we responded with having to turn around after a Friday night game and play a fresh TCU team today. I'm pleased to come out of the weekend with two wins."
OSU had several scoring chances early, including a shot in the seventh minute by Carson Michalowski that was saved off the line by a TCU defender.
In the 18th minute, the Cowgirls converted one of their scoring opportunities with some help from TCU to take a 1-0 lead when, off a free kick by Mathews from 35 yards out, a Horned Frog defender headed the ball past TCU goalie Kira Michelson-Barlett.
OSU took the one-goal lead into intermission but nearly doubled it with just under 30 minutes remaining when a 25-yard blast by Kyndall Treadwell caromed off the crossbar.
Just minutes later, the Cowgirls would record their second goal of the day, and this time it was Marchesano finding the back of the net.
Marchesano took advantage of a TCU mistake as the Horned Frogs played the ball back to Michelson-Bartlett, who promptly whiffed on her kick attempt, leaving Marchesano free for an open goal opportunity that she put away to give OSU a 2-0 advantage in the 64th minute.
It wouldn't take the Cowgirls long to stretch their lead to 3-0 as a second own goal by TCU doomed the home team. This time it was defender Katie Taylor heading an OSU cross into the back of the net in the 74th minute.
OSU wasn't done. In the 80th minute, Marchesano connected with Mathews as she sent a cross just outside the box that Mathews delivered over the line for her first-career goal.
"Megan and Taylor stepped up big time," Carmichael said. "We've had somebody different step up each game, and today was their day. They've both been playing well all season but just haven't shown up on the stat sheet. It was nice to see them take advantage of some opportunities and get some scores."
The Cowgirls return to action Friday when they host Mississippi State at 7 p.m.
