RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Oklahoma State's men's golf team closed play with a 274 on Tuesday to finish in second place at the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club's River Course.
The Cowboys finished with a 36-under total of 828 and came in six shots off the pace of tournament champion Texas. The Longhorns closed with a 276 for an 822 total at the par-72, 6,902-yard layout.
OSU junior Kevin Tway fired a 66 to return to the top of the leaderboard and earn his third career victory. Tway finished with a 17-under 199 total and three shots clear of the field. After opening with a 65 to grab the first-round lead, he slipped into a tie for second with a 68 during Round Two. However, his six-under score on Tuesday was enough to wrap up his first victory since winning the NCAA South Central Regional last spring.
The win makes Tway the third different Cowboy to win an event in six starts this year. Senior Trent Whitekiller won the season-opening Fighting Illini Invitational, while sophomore Peter Uihlein posted victories at the Ping/Golfweek Invitational and the Gifford Collegiate during the fall as well.
On Tuesday, Uihlein fired his best round of the event, finishing with a 67 to move into a tie for 11th place at 209.
Sophomore Morgan Hoffmann tied for 15th place at 211 with a final round of 74, while redshirt freshman Sean Einhaus also finished in the top 20, tying for 19th at 213 with a closing 70.
Whitekiller posted a 71 to finish play tied for 32nd place at 217.
The Cowboys will be back in action on March 12 when they begin play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas.
