DALLAS - Oklahoma State football players earned two more first-team All-America selections on Saturday when the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) named receiver Justin Blackmon and punter Quinn Sharp to its first team.
Blackmon has now been named a first-team All-American on three teams: the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp All-America team and the FWAA. The 2010 Bilitnikoff Award winner and Big 12 player of the year is now elevated to consensus All-America status. Blackmon needs just eight yards in the Valero Alamo Bowl to break the NCAA's sophomore record for receiving yards of 1,672 set by Pittsburgh's Larry Fitzgerald in 2003. Blackmon already owns a share of an NCAA record with 11 straight games with at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Sharp, the sophomore punter from Mansfield, Texas, is an All-American for the first time in his career. He is a first-team All-Big 12 selection as well after a season that saw him average 46.2 yards per punt, good enough for third nationally. He had 15 punts in excess of 50 yards and 15 punts downed inside the opponents' 20-yard-line. As a team, OSU ended the regular season second nationally in net punting (41 yards per kick). Sharp also led the nation in 53 touchbacks on kickoffs.
Blackmon and Sharp join OSU running back Kendall Hunter as All-Americans this season. Hunter is a member of the AFCA and Walter Camp All-America teams.
Oklahoma State has now had three first-team All-Americans twice in three years. In 2008, Hunter, receiver Dez Bryant and kick returner Perrish Cox were first-team All-Americans. Offensive lineman Russell Okung was the lone Cowboy All-American in 2009.
