Cowboy Football Players Earn Big 12 Honors

IRVING, TX – For the first time in the history of the Big 12 Conference, three Oklahoma State Cowboys have been named first-team all-conference on the offensive side of the ball. Another Cowboy took home a prestigious individual honor in a vote of the league's head coaches announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Leading the way for the Cowboys is Dez Bryant. The sophomore was tabbed a first-team all-conference selection as a receiver, and he was named as the Big 12 special teams player of the year.
Joining Bryant on the league's first-team are sophomore running back Kendall Hunter and junior offensive lineman Russell Okung.
Cowboys named to the league's second team include linebacker Andre Sexton, cornerback Jacob Lacey and punter Matt Fodge. The honorable mention list features defensive linemen Jeray Chatham and Tonga Tea, Jr., kick returner Perrish Cox, linebacker Orie Lemon and safety Ricky Price.
Bryant becomes the Cowboys' third individual award winner selected by the conference coaches. He joins Adarius Bowman (offensive newcomer of the year in 2006), and former coach Bob Simmons (1997 coach of the year). Bryant is third in the country in punt returns with an average of 17.9 yards per attempt. He is OSU's fourth first-team all-Big 12 receiver in the last seven years. He is third nationally with 109.4 receiving yards per game and is third nationally in scoring with 10 points per game.
The Cowboys have a first-team all-Big 12 running back for the second straight year as Hunter, the nation's fifth leading rusher at 127 yards per game, follows former Cowboy Dantrell Savage into the all-league backfield.
Okung, a three-year starter at right tackle, is OSU's third all-Big 12 offensive lineman since 2004.
