STILLWATER, Okla. - Pepperdine survived a second-half rally by the Oklahoma State women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, sneaking past the Cowgirls, 67-64, in front of 1,674 fans at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
OSU (1-5) erased a two-point halftime deficit on a pair of free throws at the 13:55 mark of the second half and built a seven-point advantage of its own one minute later on back-to-back three-pointers by senior Thia Willis.
The Waves (3-3) used a 10-2 run over the next two minutes to regain the lead before jumping out in front for good at 55-54 on a three-point basket by Damaris Hinojosa with 7:55 remaining.
Pepperdine stretched the margin to 65-56 before a lay-up by Willis made it a one-possession game with 1:12 left on the clock. However, the Cowgirls could get no closer after being held to one field goal the rest of the way.
Junior center Trisha Skibbe led the way for OSU, recording her second double-double of the season on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Dec. 16 when they battle Texas-San Antonio at the Fun in the Sun Shootout in Cancun, Mexico.
