Cowgirls Run Past Marshall, 78-58

STILLWATER, Okla.- Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rode a strong second-half performance to a 78-58 win over Marshall on Friday night before 1,276 fans at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
After holding a 36-34 halftime advantage, the Cowgirls (6-4) forced the Thundering Herd (4-4) into 13 turnovers in the second half on their way to outscoring the visitors by 18 points.
Forward Tari Cummings came alive for the Cowgirls in the final 20 minutes, scoring 15 of her team-high 17 points in the half. The senior hit all four of her shots from the floor as well as a 7-for-8 performance from the line in the period.
After falling behind 15-8 to start the contest, the Cowgirls went on a 15-2 run, seven of those coming from guard Chantoya Hawkins, to take an eight-point advantage.
Center Trisha Skibbe paced OSU in the first half, scoring 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. The sophomore finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds.
After Marshall trimmed the lead to two heading into the intermission, OSU built it back to 13 in the first four minutes of the second half.
The Cowgirls stretched the advantage to 23, its largest of the game, with 1:33 remaining on a pair of free throws from Terrisha Osborn.
The Herd's Ida Dotson finished as the game's leading scorer, turning in 19 points on the night.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Dec. 28 with a first-round matchup with George Washington in the Pepperdine Holiday Classic.
