Cowboy Golfers Finish Fourth, McQuillan Seventh At Jerry Pate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Freshmen Matt McQuillan and Par Nilsson both recorded their second top-20 finishes in three fall events as the OSU men's golf team finished fourth at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
McQuillan carded a 6-under-par score in the 54-hole event to finish seventh, while Nilsson shot 4-under in the final two rounds to finish 1-under and in 15th place. The Cowboys shot even par as a team to take fourth place, their highest finish so far this fall.
Nilsson's Swedish countryman, junior Anders Hultman, shot 3-under for the tournament and ended 11th, his best finish this fall. Sophomores J.C. DeLeon and Boyd Summerhays shot 15-under and tied for 51st place.
The Cowboys' even-par score was well behind the pace set by the top three teams, Clemson (minus-27), Georgia (minus-25) and Georgia Tech (minus-17). But OSU also easily outdistanced UAB (plus-3) and Southern California and Houston (both plus-8) for fourth. OSU had finished 12th and ninth in its first two tournaments this season.
Oklahoma State is next in action Nov. 3-5 when it competes in the GolfWorld/Palmetto Dunes Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C.
