STILLWATER – Four second-half goals propelled Oklahoma State to a Bedlam Series sweep Friday as the 22nd-ranked Cowgirls topped Oklahoma, 4-1, in the 2017 Big 12 Conference opener at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Â
The win was OSU's second of the season over its Bedlam rival as the Cowgirls also knocked off the Sooners in a non-conference tilt last month in Norman. With the victory, OSU improved to 8-1-2 on the season and is now 22-8-3 all time against OU.
Â
Haley Woodard recorded her first brace of the season as she netted OSU's first and third goals, while Camy Huddleston and Taylor Olson added scores for the Cowgirls.
Â
Both teams created chances in the opening half, but neither was able to convert. Michela Ongaro's lone save before intermission was a big one as she leapt to knock a 25-yard free kick by Tori Bowman over the crossbar in the 17th minute. Just over a minute later, the Cowgirls again escaped damage as a scramble in the box produced several OU shots, two of which were blocked by OSU defenders.
Â
OSU was able to take control of the scoreboard early in the second half when Woodard and Huddleston connected on a perfect give-and-go, with Woodard delivering a shot from five-yards out to put the home team up, 1-0, in the 51st minute.
Â
The Cowgirls would make it 2-0 just 11 minutes later when Huddleston corralled a loose ball in the box off a corner kick and sent it to the far post for her second goal of the season.
Â
OU (2-7-1) trimmed its deficit in half at the 78:03 mark as Rasha Roberts collected a free kick by Tori Bowman and fired it to the near post to make the score 2-1.
Â
But OSU answered less than two minutes later. Once again it was Woodard as she took a long pass ahead from Hannah Webb, beat OU goalie McKinley Crone in a one-on-one situation and buried it into the back of the net. The goal was Woodard's fifth of the season and marks the second multi-goal game of her career.
Â
The Cowgirls would put the exclamation point on the win with just 61 seconds remaining when Olson dribbled past an OU defender and a hard-charging Crone, who was out of her box near midfield, and tapped in the open-net chance for her fifth goal of the season, tying her with Woodard for the team lead.
Â
OSU finished with a 17-16 advantage in shots, while the Sooners owned a slight 4-3 edge on corner kicks.
Â
The Cowgirls return to action next Friday night when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU.
