STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrapped up a winning weekend Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 triumph over UTSA at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
Jaci Jones' brace led the way for OSU, while Marlo Zoller, Anna Beffer and Bri Woodall each collected their first goals of the season as the Cowgirls improved to 4-3-1 on the season. Beffer added a pair of assists, while Jones and Courtney Dike also figured in the assist column.
Michela Ongaro and Ashton Hierholzer combined for the shutout in goal, which marked the Cowgirls' second clean sheet of the weekend and third of the season.
"It feels good — mission completed for this weekend," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael.
OSU wasted little time flexing its dominance as the Cowgirls took a lead just 2:52 into the match when Jones delivered a perfect pass through the box to Zoller, who slotted a shot past charging UTSA goalie Michelle Cole to put the home team up 1-0.
The Cowgirls doubled the lead in the 32nd minute. Beffer drilled a long shot off the crossbar, but the disappointment from the close call was quickly erased as the ball caromed right back to her and she delivered a shot from the top of the box top shelf to the near post to make it 2-0.
Carmichael's squad dominated possession throughout the match, owning a 20-4 advantages in shots, including a 9-0 showing in the first half. But Ongaro made a pair of saves in her 82 minutes of action to keep the shutout intact; both saves came with OSU still leading 2-0, including one in which she leapt to knock an attempt from Marianne Hernandez over the crossbar.
OSU put the game away with a late scoring flurry that saw the Cowgirls net three goals during a 13-minute span.
Jones got the second-half scoring started in the 76th minute. Beffer sent a pass ahead to Dike, who flicked the ball past the sliding UTSA goalie to leave Jones with an open-net opportunity that she buried.
Less than eight minutes later, Jones made it 4-0 when she collected a pass from Beffer, beat a defender and went one-on-one with the goalie. The Cowgirl freshman won the battle as she delivered the chance to the near post for her third goal of the season.
After near misses on her first five shots Sunday, including one that was saved off the line by a UTSA defender, Woodall finally got her first-collegiate goal with just 99 seconds remaining in the match when she blasted a 20-yard shot top shelf to the far post to complete the OSU scoring.
OSU returns to action Friday when the Cowgirls face a tough road contest at Memphis. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
