Newberry Finishes With Career-High Threes In Loss To Oklahoma

Norman, Okla.---- Oklahoma State found itself in position to pull the upset after the first 20 minutes in a 71-49 loss to Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center on Wednesday.
The Cowboys trailed by three after the first half in which it led for all but the final possession, but quickly regained the lead at 31-30 with 17:06 remaining in the game.
Leyton Hammonds was forced to sit quickly after back-to-back fouls, and Oklahoma would take advantage. The Sooners used a 33-8 run over the next 12 minutes to put the game out of reach.
Oklahoma State couldn't have asked for a much better start to the first half. A Jeff Newberry three with 16:36 remaining that was followed by a Mitchell Solomon jumper gave the Cowboys an early 10-1 lead.
The Cowboys eventually held a 10-7 lead at the first media timeout with 14:20 left.
Later in the half, Hammonds finished the three-point play at the line to Oklahoma State an 18-10 lead with 8:42 remaining.
A Hammonds jumper later in the half gave the Cowboys a 22-19 lead, but the Sooners took a 27-24 lead into halftime. This was the 14th-consecutive game Oklahoma State has held its opponent to less than 30 points in the first half.
It was another new starting lineup for the Cowboys with Tavarius Shine making his first-career start in place of Jeffrey Carroll who didn't make the trip because of an illness.
Ryan Spangler led the way for Oklahoma with 26 points and 14 rebounds.
Newberry led the way for Oklahoma State with a team-high 12 points. He finished shooting seven-of-15 from the field, including a career-high five threes.
