WVU Postgame Notes
December 30, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- Today's Gallagher-Iba Arena crowd of 13,611 marks OSU's first sellout since Jan. 31, 2015 (vs Oklahoma). It is the 44th sellout since the GIA seating capacity was increased for the 2000-01 season.
- Leyton Hammonds led the Cowboys offensively with 17 points. It was the senior's 22nd career double-digit scoring performance.
- Jawun Evans recorded his first career double-double and the 37th points/assists double-double in OSU history. The sophomore recorded 15 points and a career-high 11Â assists.
- OSU had scored at least 92 points in every home game this year, and topped the 100-point mark five times. OSU entered today's contest averaging 102.7 points in GIA this year.
- Phil Forte hit four 3-pointers, which inches him closer to the OSU career record. The senior now has 275 for his career - third all time - and is only 24 shy of Keiton Page's career record.
- Entering today's game, the Cowboys had forced every opponent to commit at least 15 turnovers, but the Mountaineers turned the ball over just 12 times
- Jeffrey Carroll scored nine points on the afternoon, which is just his second game this season with reaching double figures.
- Brad Underwood's career record falls to 99-17, but his 85.3 win percentage is still tops among all active Division I coaches. With just 17 career losses, Underwood can tie Jerry Tarkanian (1973 at Long Beach State) and Jim Boeheim (1980 at Syracuse) for the fourth fastest coach to 100 wins in college basketball history. Only Missouri's Doc Meanwell in 1918 (100-9), Buck Freeman of St. John's in 1932 (100-10) and Kentucky legend Adolph Rupp in 1936 (100-16) reached the milestone faster.
- OSU has now lost nine straight games to teams ranked inside the AP Top 25. All-time, the Cowboys are 57-126 against teams ranked 11th or higher in the AP poll.
- The Cowboys have now lost seven straight in Big 12 play. An injured Cowboy squad lost its final six in league play last season.
- The Mountaineers have now won five straight over Oklahoma State, and lead the overall series 6-4.
- The Cowboys are now 258-154 in Big 12 games, including a 122-44 mark inside GIA.
- WVU had 23 assists on the day, which is an OSU opponent season high.
