Cowgirl Soccer Top 20 Moments, 1996-2014
July 31, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl soccer program will mark its 20th season in 2015. As we celebrate two decades of milestones, OSU head coach Colin Carmichael and assistant coach Karen Hancock, who each have been with the program since its inception and served stints as head coaches to help build the program into a national power, collaborated on a list of the top 20 moments in Cowgirl soccer history. Over the next month, we'll reveal their list (which is in no particular order) on www.okstate.com.

Three-time All-American goalie AD Franch drafted in the first round of the NWSL Draft
Â
Adrianna Franch's career at Oklahoma State was full of awards and record-setting performances.
Â
On Jan. 18, 2013, she made history again when she was selected in the first round of the National Women's Soccer League College Draft with the sixth overall pick by the Western New York Flash. With that, the OSU goalie became the highest-ever women's professional soccer draft pick in Cowgirl history.
Â
Following her selection, Franch said., "It's unbelievable; I was nervous before (the draft) started and then when it started the heart was really pounding. When the number six pick came up, I was excited, jumped up and gave Colin (Carmichael) and Justin (Elkington) hugs and texted a group message. It's very exciting."
Â
Franch started every game in goal for the Flash as a rookie in 2013 and led the team to the NWSL regular season title and the league championship game in the playoffs. She was named to the NWSL Second XI team and finished second in the league's Rookie of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year voting after recording six shutouts and a league-high 82 saves.
Â
Following her standout rookie season, Franch suffered a knee injury that caused her to miss 2014. She is currently playing professionally in Norway for Avaldsnes Idrettslag.
Â
Franch was a three-time All-American at OSU — one of only two in Cowgirl history — and recorded a program record 38 career shutouts. She finished her career with 325 saves in 8,064 minutes in goal.
Â
The Salina, Kan. native led the Big 12 Conference in shutouts in three of her four seasons in Stillwater and was named to the All-Big 12 First Team four times, one of only seven players in league history to achieve that distinction.
Â
Colin Carmichael: "A very cool moment, clearly for AD but also for me as a coach. We were up at the NSCAA Convention, and that's where they do the draft. To have AD get drafted by Western New York and get to experience that with her and just see the emotions she was going through was a great moment. And she deserved it with the way she applied herself here and how hard she worked to get there."
